If you’re not on Tumblr or at least enjoy browsing it from time to time, then you’re missing out on some great laughs. On March 26, Tumblr hit a huge milestone: 20 billion posts and a good majority of those are hilariously entertaining. Just heed this early warning: once you get started, you might lose yourself for a few hours. It’s hopelessly addicting.
Let’s take a look at my list of top 10 funny Tumblrs:
Here’s a blog that will make you laugh but is (mostly) safe for work. There are very few to no profanities and you don’t find any nudity, racist jokes or other inappropriate material. What you will find is a combination of funny pictures, Tweets, videos and cartoons/comics that remind us it doesn’t have to be tasteless to be funny.
Pleated Jeans offers streamfulls of fun. You never know just what you’re doing to get but the one common theme is that it’s going to make you giggle, laugh or spit your coffee onto your monitor. This is a hodgepodge of funny pics, animals lolz, videos and funny original content from Jeff Wysaski, who produces funnies for a living. If you need a daily dose of laughter, this is one to bookmark for sure. Comedy doesn’t have to be complicated and most often Jeff makes us laugh with the simplest concept. You’ll be nodding at your screen going “OMG, I know!”
Pretty hard to zip up a sleeping bag when your arms don’t reach. Maybe this is a case where you should have a buddy around. Do T-Rexes have buddies? Find out more than T-Rex can and cannot do when you check out T-Rex Trying, a funny Tumblr about the Tyrant Lizard King by Hugh Murphy. One thing that makes this Tumblr so funny is its simplicity.
Know Your Meme
Know Your Meme is a web series and database that documents Internet phenomena: viral videos, image macros, catchphrases, web celebs and more. Now, they also have a Tumblr. If you want to get the scoop on the latest meme or that old one that has resurfaced, this is your go-to place. Most people will find it funny but be forewarned there are some offensive (or could-be offensive) posts found here. Each image found on their Tumblr also links back to their site that explains the meme (in case you’re not up to date on your Internet culture).
When Parents Text
Does your mom know her way around a Smartphone? Does Dad find it funny to humiliate you via text? Tech savvy parents of all ages are now texting more than ever before but what happens when a good text goes bad? When Parents Text is hilarious user submitted text messages between parents and children or parent-to-parent. The best part: sometimes the parent gets the last laugh. Check out Condom Cat and other hilarious posts. Then of course there are those helpful mom messages such as “never sleep in a thong” and why you should never put Nutella on salmon.
All That’s Interesting
This one’s not always funny in a “ha-ha” way but every post is definitely interesting and some will make you laugh to boot. Part of the PBH Network that also includes Alligator Sunglasses, PBH2, Runt of the Web and more.
Rich Kids of Instagram
I thought rich people could afford to buy an entire bathing suit. This poor young lady is so broke she has to wear a bathing suit that doesn’t match. Maybe the yacht payments cut into her bikini account. If you want to get a grin from the frivolous lives of those who have more than you, check out Rich Kids of Instagram.
F U Auto Correct
Most of know about the perils of the dreaded ‘auto correct’ feature. What was meant to help us out and save us time often ends up embarrassing or frustrating us. But when it happens to someone else, well… that’s just hilarious. Here’s a Tumblr dedicated to funny auto correct mixups.
If you’re a fan of vintage comics, you’ll love this one even more than the average Joe but it’s still pretty darn funny. What’s it all about? “We take vintage comics and place them out of context.
Hilarity ensues…” This is a great stop for your daily dose of Internet funnies.
My first thought was that this was going to be another site making funny of people with kids. I have five of my own and just so happen to like them so I don’t always find the humor in those sites but I was unexpectedly pleased with this one. So what is it all about? “STFU, Parents is a submission-based “public service” blog that mocks parent overshare on social networking sites. It was created in March 2009 and is an entertainment destination for thousands of daily readers. The site serves as a guide for parents on what NOT to post about their kids as well as a forum for non-parents to vent about their TMI-related frustrations.”
If you’re a parent or a friend of someone with a kid, you probably know someone (or multiple someones) like the people on this site.
Since Tumblr launched just about five years ago, it has attracted all types of people and created a thriving community with a great sense of humor. While not everything you see at Tumblr is funny, there is a great deal of hilarity that now makes up the ranks of the 50 million blogs found on the site.
Humor is one of our favorite time sucks, and it’s a major ingredient in Internet casserole. Do you have a favorite funny Tumblr that’s not on the list?
